Jet Li has been confirmed to focus his new movie on the Chinese martial arts of Tai-Chi, but Feng Xiaogang won’t be the director.

Production company Huayi Brothers announced the film on Monday, February 21, 2011. With the working title, “Tai-Chi”, the film will star Jet Li as a legendary Tai-Chi master.

Li built one of his most successful roles with his portrayal of Tai-Chi master Zhang Sanfeng in Yuen Woo-Ping’s 1993 film “Tai-Chi Master” (“Taiji Zhang Sanfeng”). Huayi Brothers didn’t elaborate on Li’s new character, but said it won’t reprise Zhang Sanfeng.

Jet Li will be the executive producer of the film with Chen Kuo-Fu.

Hollywood’s once-great martial arts scene has been kicked into oblivion by a superficially greater power, that of the 3D gadget-weapon. It should have been a karate film!

What is appealing about the premise of this tale is that the pulp hero and the villainous gun-loving crime lord, whom he must conquer, are as thick as two short planks. Britt Reid is a spoiled rich boy who has recently inherited his father’s media empire, and seeks danger and limelight by posing as a Robbin-Hood style criminal in a green mask.

The only reason he succeeds is because his Chinese aide Kato – played by Bruce Lee in the original 1966 TV series Le Frelon Vert - is a quiet genius and a martial arts maestro. In this version he is played by Taiwanese musician Jay Chou. In real life Chou can play piano, guitar, cello, Chinese flute, Chinese zither and jazz drum - but, crucially for this film, can he fold a man into an envelope with his little finger?

Besides the exciting news that Wu-Tang Clan member and martial arts-aficionado RZA’s Kung Fu film The Man with the Iron Fist was actually beginning production in China, there hasn’t been much to report on the project. The fact that co-writer Eli Roth stepped on as producer along with Quentin Tarantino seemed like a forgone conclusion and the cast of Lucy Liu, Daniel Wu and Byron Mann more or less made sense. But finally, a bombshell of sorts: Russell Crowe appears confirmed to star in the film.

According to Film Business Asia, Crowe and RZA will both play inhabitants of Feudal China who are “forced to defend themselves,” presumably against Kung-Fu warriors.

That’s all we have in the way of a synopsis, but the way I see it, this casting could go one of two ways. The first involves Russell Crowe doing old-school Kung-Fu, which sounds amazing precisely because it makes about as much sense to me as Michelle Pfeiffer playing Chris Pine’s mother. The other, more boring possibility is that Crowe will play some sort of European settler who fights exactly like Russell Crowe might in real life, and finally masters one Kung-Fu move by the end of the movie.

If it’s the former, then count me in! If it’s the latter…Oh hell, I’ll probably see a martial-arts movie directed by RZA regardless. But chime in with your own guesses and thoughts in the comments.

Lights Out, from Executive Producer/Showrunner Warren Leight (In Treatment), stars Holt McCallany (CSI: Miami) as an aging former heavyweight boxing champion who struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring.

Financial problems leave him at a perilous crossroads – battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. Catherine McCormack (Braveheart) co-stars as “Theresa Leary,” Lights’ wife who is finishing her medical residency; Pablo Schreiber (Law & Order) as “Johnny Leary,” Lights’ brother and business manager whom Lights put through college; and Stacy Keach (Fat City) as “Pops,” Lights’ father and former trainer who runs the boxing gym owned by Lights. Clark Johnson (The Shield, The Wire) and Norberto Barba (In Treatment, CSI: NY) directed the pilot episode. Series Creator Justin Zackham (The Bucket List), Phillip Noyce (Salt) and Ross Fineman are also Executive Producers.

Lights Out is produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions.

From the professional Sandisk Cruzer Titanium drives to the more unique Golden Robot, there are all types of themed USB drives out there to appeal to every sort of crowd. I haven’t seen may action-themed USB drives yet though, and this Bruce Lee USB drive definitely fills that gaping hole in the niche.

Bruce Lee was famous for starring in films such as “Enter the Dragon” and “Game of Death”, which is where his iconic yellow jumpsuit originates. Pretec has released three USB drives inspired by Bruce Lee, one of which features this same iconic yellow suit. This model of Bruce Lee has a remarkable resemblance to his facial expression, and his holding a rod. I think it would’ve been cooler if he was holding nunchuks, but from the image it seems to look more like a rod. Nonetheless, this USB drive still screams the Bruce Lee vibe.

The second USB drive is a bullet-shaped drive, which has a cap that can be removed. When the cap is removed, there is a chain connecting the cap to the body which makes it look exactly like a really stubby, but sweet, pair of nunchuks. This drive is engraved with little accented thumbnails of Bruce Lee performing a jump kick. Apparently, this bullet-shaped drive is also waterproof and fireproof, and even bulletproof. I don’t suggest you put that to the test though: the shell around it might be bulletproof, but your data isn’t!

Lastly, Pretec has crafted a swivel USB drive with the image of Bruce Lee printed on. This drive seems to be the most serious out of the three, and will probably be the most subtle. It features a hole for a keychain to go through. If you’re a professional and still want to show your love of martial arts, this drive is the one for you.

These drives all come ia range of sizes, from 4GB to 16GB, which allows for plenty of storage to back up important documents and media files to.

The USB drives are now available in gizmoagent!

Wong Kar-wai‘s upcoming film The Grandmasters, starring Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi and Chang Chen, tells the story of martial-arts master Ip Man, the man who trained Bruce Lee.

Is Tony Leung version of Ip Man better then the Donnie Yen? Hopefully We will be able to find out soon in 2011.
