There is a good article about Ving Tsun long pole written by By Alan Gibson & Dr. Matthew Mills.

Ving Tsun pole training contains a range of sophisticated hidden forms. It demonstrates the fundamental physics and mechanics of effective hand strikes. Use of the pole teaches us to efficiently exploit a series of neuromuscular mechanisms to maximise striking power. The pole is far from being redundant, and consistent with central Ving Tsun concepts, it is amongst the simplest and most effective tool for improving striking power.

Bruce Lee: Journey to the West tells of the martial arts legend’s difficult road to success, as figures from Chinese mythology follow his quest and The Monkey King, a beloved warrior god, becomes his heavenly ally. In a show fusing sources as diverse as martial arts, Chinese Opera, modern dance, and pop music, Bruce struggles to master his skills, purify his spirit and forge a link to unite East and West.

Bartlett Sher, a Tony Award nominee for his direction of South Pacific, will direct this David Yazbek-David Henry Hwang musical, with choreography by Dou Dou Huang, the artistic director of the Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble.

Scheduled to open 2010.

If think Wing Chun dummy is too expensive and you don’t have space for it, the Martial Arm may be right for you. Of course you can’t get the full Wooden Dummy training with this arm, but it will at least add more variant in your daily punching drill.

If you own one of those, leave a comment and tell us how you like it.

Sifu Adam Abenante is the instructor at Grey Garden Wing Chun in Brooklyn NY. He has been studying many type of martial arts over the past 21 years. Here is the interview with Sifu Adam Abenante.

What would you say is the hardest part to master in Wing Chun?
In Wing Chun, the hardest part for most people is seeing the living system through the abstraction of stances and forms. Many out there get carried away with theory and dogma to the point of absurdity. In this state, it becomes quite easy, for example, to wax intellectual and pour over the excruciating minutiae, of whether shifting should be 45 degrees or 38 degrees in a postulated situation. In reality, however, it takes only seconds for a rabid gang member from the projects, to reign blows down upon you until you [ Read the entire interview ]

Shawn Obasi is a senior assistant instructor at Grados Wing Chun. He has been studying Wing Chun and BJJ for many years and bring Wing Chun into MMA is what he is focusing now.

We thank Shawn for granting us this exclusive interview.

Tell us who inspired you to train Wing Chun. Why you train MMA also?

They are two people inspired me to train in wing chun. The first person is Bruce Lee. Since I was a child I remember myself dreaming of being able to fight like him. The second person is Raul Ortiz. A former homeless man who learned kung fu from books and videos; after seeing me reading Bruce Lee’s book The Tao Of Jeet Kun Do on the train at the age of 19 he offered to teach me what he knew. I train in MMA to be a well rounded fighter and also understand the tactics in which MMA fighters use.

Please tell us why do you think Wing Chun will work in MMA? On the Internet, there are people who feel Wing Chun will not work in MMA.

The reason why I know wing chun can work in MMA is simple. It is more difficult to defend against … [ Read the entire interview ]

Summit Entertainment

The latest series of Twilight is coming to the theater soon. Probably you have already hear a lot of girls talking about it around you. However there is one think you may not know about this film. The former martial arts athlete, John Stoneham Jr., is the stunt coordinator for the film, and he was charged with getting much of the cast in shape, and teaching them Wing Chung, a form of Kung-fu that you’ll see when inevitably you get dragged to go check the film out this weekend.

If you get drag to see this movie, don’t fall sleep because you may miss the incredible kung-fu fight scene.

I came across an article about how a Wing chun fighter should fight when they face with a BJJ fighter. It is interesting and the author emphasize if two equally advanced and fit fighter, the advanced Wing Chun fighter should able to keep the distance if he has a good structure. Another suggestion is don’t widen your stance with one leg in front and the other in back, because you’ll give away your front leg to the BJJ guy.

If you are interested, read the full article.
